Weekend Wheeling

Did a bit of riding this past weekend and into the week really, temps are warming up and we are starting to have more days in the 40° range than we are in the 20° range and I am okay with that. If I'm being honest I'm a bit over winter and all it's cold and blustery days, bring on green grass, warmer temps and longer days. 




Saturday was supposed to be warm if you looked at the forecast on Monday but by Wednesday it had changed to being a bit chilly with the possibility of also being a bit wet still from some anticipated dusting of snow on Thursday night into Friday. Since I had already enjoyed the mud and the muck of the Winter Endurance the weekend before I didn't want to repeat that and opted to keep the normal Saturday ride in town instead of risking the gravel. In an effort to make it a little more exciting than just using the paved multi purpose trails as we have numerous times before, I decided to link together a few alleys to ride down in our wandering.




As the day went on and the temps began to rise a bit the alleys became problematic with ice and mud so we punted and moved to the paved trails after all. Might have had our first ever bench beer stop though so that's something I suppose.


Ended another fun Saturday ride at the Hub Café for some food and warm beverages, I decided upon the French Toast as my choice. Looking at the menu and description it sounded delicious and I couldn't remember the last time I had eaten it. The toast did not disappoint and the raspberry sauce that accompanied it was super scrumptious.




Sunday was even nicer than Saturday so we took advantage of the day by rolling some local gravel on the newly acquired twin Trek 1120s. We have some plans for these bikes come spring, rounding up bags and all other needed bikepacking accoutrements now in anticipation of several camping excursions soon before the humidity of summer fully kicks in.




Rolled back into town for a mid ride refreshment break in the park before taking in a little bird watching out at Crystal Springs, there were hundreds of what looked to be snow geese swarming around like insects.




Keeping with the alley theme from Saturday we decided to wind our way through town on the backroads when we headed home. Crazy how different a town looks when you take the roads less traveled, they sometimes really do make all the difference.
