Saturday the plan was to get into the park for a shorter more casual ride because on Sunday we had an 85 mile route planned. Rain on Friday and the threat of rain over night Friday almost canceled the Wilderness plan on Saturday but Lincoln stayed mostly dry luckily.
Since it was football Saturday we stayed well away from downtown and opted for the Rock Island down to Old Cheney and into the park that way.
Park was in good shape, a few of the normal spots were a little bit wet but easily avoidable. Unfortunately the farther south we got the more water we encountered.
We popped out onto the Jamaica North and rode out to the shelter at Saltillo Road, where it began to sprinkle on us so we high tailed it back on the Jamaica North just in case there was actual rain on the way.
On the way back into town the sprinkles stopped and the sun came back out, so we opted for a Banhwich stop for lunch. Always a tasty option if you like spicy sandwiches. After lunch we all went our separate ways thus ending another great Saturday ride. Unfortunately we never did get in that Sunday ride due to rain overnight and into the day, always seems to rain on Labor Day weekend.
New in the shop are these Knog+ lights, they have multiple settings and are claimed to last 20 hours on Eco flash, more than enough to get you through a week of commuting and they are rechargeable as well as 100% waterproof according to Knog.
The light is two pieces and held together by a fairly strong magnet, the bottom portion can be attached to your bicycle via the rubber rings and then you can take the light portion inside with you when you stop.
The light can also be attached to bags or other articles of clothing by removing the bottom piece, sliding the light through a loop like depicted here and then attaching the bottom piece again with the magnet. Super slick and super easy, it also stays put; rode through Wilderness Park and the light never moved or came off.
Recharging is accomplished by plugging the entire light into a USB port, the light remains lit until it is fully charged and then it goes dark to let you know it's ready. The best lights out there are the lights you carry with you and this one is small enough to slip into any pocket or bag you might use on your bicycle regularly. At less than $22 retail it seems like an amazingly great value and should prove to be a solid light option that won't break the bank; available in red or white if you'd like to run one in the front as well as the rear.
