I'm In A Hurry And Don't Know Why

IMG_1403

Great group for the Saturday morning ride this week, hoping with the weather getting less warm that we will continue to see larger groups until the cold of fall starts to pick them off one by one. We also had a new rider this week, another Sarah and like the original Sarah she is also a pretty strong rider. Hopefully we didn't scare her off and she comes back for more rides in the future.

With Gravel Worlds and most of the longer races now a thing of the past for this year, the plan was to do a shorter and more relaxed ride out to Hickman and back.

Two things lead me to to believe that the relaxed portion of the ride was going to be a relative term, first David said "I'm not going fast today." and second we hit the Jamaica and the front took off like a scalded cat.

Before you could eat your first Clif Bar, we were in Roca already... Good to meet you Mr. Rogue, perhaps a little personal space is in order.

While not officially opened just yet, we did regroup in front of the Roca Tavern and the commotion was enough that the Tavern owner opened up shop and offered us a beer if we'd like. It would be just plain rude to turn down such a gracious offer so we found ourselves sitting on the patio enjoying a frosty one with the corn silos looming in the back drop on a gorgeous late summer Saturday mid morning. Even ran into mini Frost out there, or as the young folks like to say we ran into a "Frost Warning". Hopefully all the hype and enthusiasm can carry over to a good season for the Huskers this year.

A warning of a whole other sort, they are tearing the shoulder up right across from the tavern so if you head out that way be careful, space is at a premium right now on the road through town.

Fully re-hydrated it was time to get a move on, after sucessfully cresting the "bump" out of town and the new section of pavement, it was onto the shortish gravel portion of the ride.

Another quick little spin and we were at 9 South Chargrill in Hickman where we stopped for some food and drink. If you like the one in town, the one in Hickman is even a little bit nicer and worth the drive out.

After lunch we were even treated to an eccentric bottom bracket adjustment class before we headed back to town. The SMNDFBR is nothing if not a full service ride.

Most of us opted to take the route back that we took out which was mostly flat and fast on the Homestead/Jamaica North trail but that meant we made it back to Lincoln fairly quickly.

As is usually the case, the ride splintered as soon as we got back to town, ending the official part of the ride. Some of us opted to head down to Method for some conversation and barley pops.

Even found some giant donuts on the way back to the shop, although it looked like someone already sampled them all.

Thanks to everyone who made it out, was a fun ride. With next weekend being an extended three day ride we are probably going to do a shorter Saturday ride, perhaps Wilderness if it's good, and then on Sunday we are looking to redo the Tour of Dirt Roads from May of this year. All are welcomed to both rides, look for event pages to pop up over the next few days.
